Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Phlebotomist at Olathe Hospital for PRN evening/night shifts (8:30pm start). The role focuses on interpreting orders, selecting correct tube types, and maintaining patient identification standards in both ambulatory and in-patient settings.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, phlebotomy training or certification, and experience in specimen collection with knowledge of pre-analytical variables.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Completion of an external phlebotomy program or equivalent training.
• 1+ year experience in specimen collection and processing or internal training program.

Responsibilities

• Performs blood draws by venipuncture according to standard protocol, ensuring patient safety.
• Collects specimens using appropriate techniques and provides instructions for collection.
• Responds to post-venipuncture reactions and assists patients as needed.
• Manages data entry in information systems in line with policies.
• Ensures proper container type, centrifugation, and transport conditions for specimens.
• Releases orders in ambulatory health system and processes specimens in LIS.
• Troubleshoots orders and assists with missing specimens as needed.
• Provides coverage at alternate locations to meet staffing needs.
