Job summary

Cook County Health & Hospitals System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine - Transfusion Medicine. The MLS will perform high-complexity testing across POCT, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Blood Banking, under supervision, ensuring quality and compliance.

The role includes training staff, developing procedures, and assisting with safety and operations. Requires MLS certification, a Bachelor's degree, and 1 year post-cert experience across two lab sections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field is required (official transcripts at interview).
• Must qualify as a Medical Technologist/MLS per CLIA and Illinois codes (proof at interview).
• National certification from ASCP/AMT/ABB as MLS/MT/GS (proof at interview).
• 1 year post-certification experience in two lab sections is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform highly complex testing in multiple lab sections under supervision.
• Provide guidance and training to MLS and staff; coordinate procedures.
• Oversee quality control systems and safety/compliance with regulations.
• Assist with method development, documentation, and procedures.
• Collaborate with supervisors and staff to optimize lab operations.
