Job summary

SunCoast Blood Centers in Bradenton, FL, is seeking a Medical Technologist to support collection, processing, testing, and preparation of blood products for transfusion and diagnostic purposes.

You will ensure regulatory compliance, safety and quality standards while supporting clinical and operational needs. Requires a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology and Florida license, with 2 years in a clinical lab and blood banking experience. On-site, 2nd shift; on-call rotations possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
• Minimum 2 years in a clinical laboratory setting with hands-on blood banking experience.
• Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist License in appropriate specialty(s).

Responsibilities

• Conduct pretransfusion testing (blood typing, cross-matching, antibody screening).
• Perform diagnostic and infectious disease marker testing using manual and automated methods.
• Evaluate and interpret test results and report discrepancies promptly.
• Prepare and label blood products for transfusion with proper storage and transport.
• Process and test donor blood to produce safe components.
• Manage inventory and coordinate shipments to healthcare facilities.
• Communicate with hospital staff to resolve urgent requests or discrepancies.
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
• Maintain LIS records and documentation.
• Train and mentor new staff, interns, and students.
• Participate in departmental meetings and cross-functional collaborations.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in on-call rotations.
