Responsibilities

• Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
• Documents and reports test results in a timely manner and verifies accuracy before reporting.
• Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens and follows guidelines for resolving patient specimen problems.
• Follows laboratory quality control procedures and reports discrepancies to the supervisor; analyzes QC results before accepting results.
• Performs maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment as required.
• Completes work assignments on time and maintains high-quality output.
• Meets deadlines and turn-around times for test results and preventive maintenance.
• Promotes safety and complies with universal precautions and hospital policies.
• Acts as a resource for test-related issues for technicians and other staff.
