Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician/MLS for the Evening shift at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. The role requires collecting, processing and testing patient specimens to support diagnoses and care across departments.

Responsibilities include performing waived to high complexity tests, maintaining QC, troubleshooting instruments, and ensuring specimen integrity. ASCP-certified or equivalent licensure is required for this position.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in applied science in Medical Laboratory Technology required.
• MLT (ASCP) or equivalent license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine waived, moderately, and high complex testing.
• Collect, process and receive specimens (blood, urine, fecal, body fluids) for analysis across the clinical laboratory.
• Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of specimens; ensure accuracy across age ranges.
• Prepare samples for testing and send out to reference laboratories.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and stock supplies.
• Perform complex laboratory procedures; recognize deviations and correct problems under CLIA requirements.
• Analyze quality control data and take appropriate action to maintain accuracy.
• Assist in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance; participate in training programs.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving instrument failures; participate in validation of new equipment.
• Ensure proper quality control measures are in place.
