Job summary

Thoreau Elementary is seeking a Custodian for Building Services within the Madison Metropolitan School District. The role is non-exempt with an hourly starting wage of $29.79 on the 26-27 Salary Schedule, Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm–10:00 pm.

Responsibilities include leading custodial staff, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring building security after shifts. Qualified applicants will have at least six months custodial experience, a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, and the ability to

Qualifications

MMSD requires six months custodial experience and ability to train or lead staff.
Ability to read directions, maintain records, and communicate in English for emergencies.
Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and willingness to work evenings/nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

Plan and prioritize custodial work to meet district standards.
Lead and direct custodial staff, and cover for Building Custodian as needed.
Enter and sign off tasks in the EAM system; manage work orders and permits.
Perform outdoor maintenance, light electrical/plumbing tasks, and safety checks.
Work varied shifts and locations as assigned; ensure doors are secured at shift end.
