Job summary

WellSpan Health in York, PA is seeking a PRN laboratory support associate focused on general duties in specimen processing and clerical office tasks within the pathology section. You may work on- and off-site; on-call responsibilities are possible and you may assist in preparing cytology slides and specimens.

Responsibilities include operating various lab instruments, quality control, data entry, and assisting patients with instructions and billing concerns.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Less than 1 year relevant experience required.
• Medical terminology knowledge; upon hire preferred.
• Good communication and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties at progressively greater skill levels under supervision; may operate laboratory instruments.
• Performs quality control and instrument check procedures; maintains records.
• Trains other employees in day-to-day procedures.
• Receives/transports/processes specimens; delivers to on- and off-site locations; stores specimens; disposes of specimens.
• Receives and transfers supplies, equipment, reports, and specimens; may prepare/distill chemical solutions.
• Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
• Provides instructions to patients and other customers of the laboratory.
• Reviews physician orders for supporting documentation.
• Resolves billing problems and/or handles insurance updates.
