Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, IA is seeking a part-time Lab Assistant for evening shifts. You will support multiple laboratory departments, performing venipunctures and specimen handling to aid diagnosis and treatment.

Required is a high school diploma or GED with laboratory experience and familiarity with medical terminology; strong computer skills and a collaborative approach are important to uphold safety and quality standards across the lab.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks appropriate to patient age.
• Accept specimens and requisitions from internal and external customers and manage add-on orders.
• Register and log specimens in LIS and ensure data accuracy.
• Operate laboratory information systems and ensure proper labeling/identification of samples.
• Restock supplies and assist in general laboratory operations.
• Follow safety and infection control procedures and maintain quality standards.
