Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff. You will perform cleaning in patient rooms, clinical areas, offices, and public spaces while following infection control and safety standards.

This is a full-time, non-exempt role on the Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM) with pay range $19.00–$30.40/hr.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year EVS/janitorial experience.
• Working knowledge of universal precautions, blood-borne pathogen procedures, and PPE.
• Ability to safely operate various high-powered cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions with sound judgment.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Effective time management, problem-solving, and adaptability.

Responsabilités

• Perform routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, and public spaces to established standards.
• Operate cleaning equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, steam machines, etc.) and maintain equipment.
• Empty trash, replace liners, and transport trash to disposal areas.
• Replenish expendable supplies (soap, tissue, towels).
• Follow universal precautions and PPE, especially in patient care areas.
• Report repairs and safety hazards per policy.
• Maintain patient and family confidentiality per HIPAA and related standards.
• Attend Compliance training and participate in improvement activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
