Job summary

This role supports emergency paging (CODE Blue/Red) and provides on-call schedule information, ensuring smooth hospital communications and essential operations.

A high school diploma is required; strong communication, multitasking, and professional telephone etiquette are essential; Spanish bilingual

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Past employment within a healthcare facility, and one year of PBX/Switchboard experience preferred.
• Must have effective communication skills and must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
• Must be detail oriented, customer focused, have a pleasant speaking voice, and possess skills in proper telephone etiquette.
• Must be able to handle emergency calls in a professional and calm demeanor.
• General knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Bilingual with Spanish proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers and routes all incoming calls to requested areas (unless restricted by Grady Health System Policy).
• Locates personnel and house staff by public address system, pagers, cell phones, or other assigned devices.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients and staff by answering calls in a courteous and professional manner.
• Facilitates paging alerts for cardiac arrest (CODE Blue) and fire codes (CODE Red).
• Provides physician on-call schedule information and assistance to hospital personnel and patients with long distance calls.
• Notifies others of severe weather reports and provides overall general hospital information to patients, families, staff physicians, and the community at large.
