Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Histology Lab Assistant for Surgical Pathology in the evening shift. The role provides entry-level histology tasks, processing specimens, and preparing surgical and autopsy slides.

You will communicate with pathologists and residents and participate in the laboratory occurrence management program. Responsibilities include slide labeling, embedding, block reconciliation, and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• Basic computer typing and data entry.
• Familiarity with medical terminology helpful.

Responsabilités

• Provides histology support using automation and manual methods to stain and coverslip slides.
• Labels slides, tracks paperwork, and submits to pathologist or resident.
• Reviews protocol files for Gross Only specimens and ensures routine H&E slides are submitted.
• Performs and documents embedding for routine surgical and autopsy tissues.
• Maintains records and investigates discrepancies per SOP.
• Answers routine inquiries about blocks, slides, and case status.
• Ensures proper use and maintenance of tissue processor, embedding center, stainer, and coverslipper.
