Job summary

Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA, is seeking a Patient Care Observer. This onsite role reports to the Respiratory Therapy Manager and supports high-risk patients, ensuring safety and continuous observation during a shift from 3:00pm to 11:30pm on varying weekdays and weekends.

Located at 30 Locust Street, the position is part of a union-backed unit with regular evening hours and a 24-hour weekly commitment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to communicate with children and adults required.
• AVADE certification required within 6 months.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Experience working in a clinical environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Remain in constant attendance with assigned high-risk patients until relieved by the healthcare team.
• Maintain safety for patients with suicidal ideation.
• Assist with restraints and assistive devices under supervision.
• Report any change in patient condition to the nurse immediately.
• Support patient comfort and safety: falls prevention, mobility assistance, feeding, and hygiene.
• Document patient status and interactions per hospital policy.
