Job summary

Cape Henlopen School District is seeking a part-time Groundskeeper to maintain a clean, safe environment for students and staff. The role combines light groundskeeping with indoor cleaning and sanitation, with a Monday–Friday 4:00 PM–8:00 PM schedule.

Responsibilities include custodial tasks, grounds maintenance, and equipment operation. Candidates should have a HS diploma or GED and be able to work evenings with limited supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of related grounds or custodial experience preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license; travel between local sites during shifts.
• Pre-employment screening: background check, drug test, fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Custodial & sanitation duties: clean and sanitize offices, common areas, and the Annex Weight Room.
• Vacuum, sweep, and mop VCT flooring; empty trash and dispose of waste properly.
• Maintain a clean custodial closet and manage inventory with the Chief Custodian.
• Perform specialized floor care; experience stripping and waxing floors preferred.
• Respond promptly to emergency cleanup requests as needed.
• Groundskeeping & building maintenance: maintain District Office grounds, weed control, shrub trimming, and drainage care.
• Keep walkways, driveways, and parking areas safe; snow removal in winter.
• Inspect, operate, and maintain equipment safely (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, lawn gear).
• Assist with loading/unloading supplies; report facility damage to Chief Custodian.
