Job summary

IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis is seeking a Floor Care Technician to maintain and protect various flooring surfaces, ensuring safety and a welcoming environment. This full-time evening shift (3:00 PM–11:30 PM) includes rotating weekends/holidays and requires operation of auto-scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors while coordinating with EVS and clinical teams.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma/GED (or equivalent experience), Indiana driver’s license,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience preferred; no experience required but must pass competency within 2 months of hire.
• Indiana driver's license and proof of insurance required.
• Ability to pass a floor care competency assessment.
• Must be able to use floor care equipment including auto-scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, and carpet extractors.
• Must wear protective equipment per hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, reach, bend, squat, climb ladders, and lift or carry 50 lbs or more.

Responsibilities

• Maintain floor surfaces across facilities using advanced equipment.
• Coordinate with Environmental Services (EVS) and clinical teams to minimize disruption and ensure safety.
• Follow safety signage and infection prevention protocols.
• Set up safety zones and communicate work area impacts.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and basic floor repairs.
• Develop project-based cleaning plans and schedules.
