Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement seeks an experienced adult ESOL instructor to teach 9 hours per week in the evenings at Renaissance Charter School, Jackson Heights, Queens.

The role focuses on contextualized instruction for beginning-level English learners, using a communicative approach and integrating technology. Requirements include a Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of teaching; a Master’s in TESOL or Education is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years teaching experience.
• TESOL knowledge and ability to explain verbs and tenses.
• Ability to adapt/adopt lessons for diverse learners.
• Advanced computer literacy including Microsoft XP.

Responsibilities

• Provide contextualized, content-based English language instruction at the beginning level.
• Design engaging lesson plans using TESOL best practices and curriculum standards.
• Incorporate technology and digital literacy into ESOL classroom instruction.
• Assess student progress and administer assessments to monitor outcomes.
• Attend monthly program meetings and staff development activities.
• Assist with student registration and testing during quarterly periods.
