Job summary

Purdue University is seeking an Associate Custodian or Custodian to help maintain clean, safe facilities across classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces on campus.

You will respond to requests, help with building access, and support campus safety under general supervision. The position offers a stable schedule and competitive hourly pay with a district shift differential.

Qualifications

• No formal education or experience required for S1/S2 (as applicable).
• Must complete onboarding training or be enrolled within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to read, speak, and understand English to communicate effectively.
• Basic math skills and good work organization.
• Learn and follow safety procedures and wear PPE as required.
• Ability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs frequently, up to 60 lbs occasionally.
• Work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32°F and above 90°F.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe environment in University facilities including classrooms, offices, labs and public spaces.
• Provide custodial services and respond to requests; develop relationships with building occupants.
• Control building access by locking/unlocking areas as scheduled by the department.
• Respond to campus crises to enhance public safety and minimize damage.
• Clean, sanitize and maintain spaces under supervision using established practices and procedures.
• Sweep, mop or vacuum floors and clean dusted surfaces.
