Qualifications

  • Must meet Texas residential treatment standards and have valid driver’s license with limited violations.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and serving daily meals as outlined in weekly menus.
  • Following recipes for daily meals.
  • Cleaning prep and serving areas after meals.
  • Washing dishes and kitchenware used during meals.
  • Maintain general cleanliness of kitchen and dining hall.
  • Work with residents in on-campus employment program.
  • Duties may be added or changed at leadership's discretion.

Job description

Since 1916, The Settlement Home for Children has been promoting healing and growth in children, young adults, and families by providing a continuum of care, support, and resources to those who have experienced severe emotional trauma, abuse, or neglect — with a vision of ending the cycle of child abuse.

The Evening Cook

The Evening Cook is responsible for daily dinner meal preparation and serving dinner to staff and residents. The Evening Cook will follow the menu and recipes provided to create two meal options per meal period. The Evening Cook will keep all areas clean, as well as cleaning up after meal prep and meal service. The Evening Cook will work with other kitchen staff in a professional manner to ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Preparing and serving daily meals as outlined in the weekly menus
  • Following recipes for daily meals

Required Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Food Manager Certificate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Food Handlers License
  • Desire to work with children and adolescents
  • Must meet personnel requirements as outlined in the Minimum Standards for Residential Treatment Centers in Texas and Minimum Standards for CPAs in Texas
  • Have a valid driver's license and less than 2 moving violations and/or 1 accident within the past 3 years
  • Must have and maintain current auto liability insurance and provide proof of insurance when requested
Preferred Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Training in nutrition/dietetics
  • Culinary training or certification
  • 1 year experience working with children and adolescents
Essential Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Must be able to lift and/or exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently. Position frequently involves walking, standing, sitting, speaking, and repetitive motion. Position may occasionally involve climbing and balancing. Must have close visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected) so as to perform reading and transcription; perform visual inspections. Must be able to hear so as to receive detailed information through oral communication; receive information through telephone.
