Job summary

OU Medicine is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist for Centralized Receiving & Processing. The role involves performing routine diagnostic tests in a clinical lab, working evenings, and ensuring accuracy in specimen handling and reporting in the OUH informatics system.

The ideal candidate holds an MLT or science degree with required coursework and has 0–3 years (Level 1) or 3–5 years (Level 2) of relevant lab experience, plus national certification if possible.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a science degree with the required coursework (24 semester hours MLT or 24 hours science with chemistry/biology hours).
• Experience: Level 1 requires 0–3 years; Level 2 requires 3–5 years in a clinical laboratory.
• Nationally recognized certification preferred (ASCP, AMT, AABB, NASKL, ASCLS, HHS, ASHI, AAB, ABB, AMS, CRP, EBPH, Military, NILA).
• Ideal candidate has Centralized Receiving & Processing experience in clinical labs.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived and nonwaived lab patient testing promptly per policies.
• Comply with hospital and lab safety policies and PPE usage.
• Participate in quality improvement and regulatory compliance activities.
• Record patient demographics, specimen data, and test results in the lab system.
• Receive, sort, and route specimens to appropriate lab sections.
• Maintain instrument maintenance and QC logs.
• Perform proficiency testing and inventory management.
• Demonstrate initiative and professional development.
