Rush Oak Park Hospital is seeking an Admissions Registration Specialist I to support patient intake at the Oak Park, IL campus. The role reviews and updates demographic, insurance and financial data, guiding patients through insurance options and costs with courtesy and accuracy.

This part-time position (0.5–0.89 FTE) supports the patient registration team, handling multi-tasking in a fast-paced hospital environment while ensuring HIPAA compliance and patient care alignments.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 0-1 year of experience.
• Must have a basic understanding of the core Microsoft suite offerings (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Excellent communication and outstanding customer service and listing skills.
• Basic keyboarding skills.
• Critical thinking, sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills essential.
• Team oriented, open minded, flexible, and willing to learn.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy required.
• Ability to prioritize and function effectively in a fast paced department.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.
• Ability to function independently and manage own time and work tasks.

Responsibilities

• Collects, verifies and enters patient demographic, employer, financial and insurance information into Epic.
• Obtain and interpret patient insurance benefits and communicate to patient and coworkers.
• Determine patient financial obligation and communicate clearly and respectfully.
• Perform admission processes in compliance with policies and HIPAA, HIPAA and regulatory requirements.
• Inform patients of hospital policies governing the revenue cycle and discuss financial responsibility.
• Answer telephone inquiries from patients, payers and staff and provide resolutions.
• Collaborate with multiple departments to resolve issues affecting reimbursement.
