AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna is seeking a Research Engineer (f/m/d) for Electric Vehicle Power Electronics to join the Center for Energy. You will work on national and European projects, develop BMS and power electronics, and implement hardware/software for battery storage and EV systems.

The role demands a strong background in power electronics, MATLAB/C++, and hands-on hardware experience, with excellent English and German language skills.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Technical Physics.
• Deep knowledge in Power Electronics, Electric Drives and Battery Storage Systems.
• Experience developing BMS systems and algorithms.
• Several years of project experience in research settings, ideally with EVs and storage systems.
• Experience managing research projects independently.
• Proficient in MATLAB, C++, Python, EAGLE, PSIM, LTSpice, PLECS, etc.
• Hands-on mindset and passion for sustainable technical solutions.
• Analytical thinking and enthusiasm for innovative research.
• Strong English communication and teamwork; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work on national and European funded projects to advance next‑gen power electronics.
• Apply expertise as BMS and power electronics developer for topology, selection, circuit design, and hardware/software implementation.
• Develop and integrate hardware/software for BMS, traction inverters, onboard chargers, DC/DC converters and commission them.
• Program BMS control and SOX algorithms for battery storage systems.
• Simulate energy flow and circuits and optimize power electronics for efficiency, power density, and reliability.
• Publish scientific work and present at conferences.
• Contribute to novel methods and prototypes for industry partners and help design better products.
• Provide input for new strategic research ideas to grow the unit’s portfolio.
• Support industry partners to roll out new products to the market.
