Job summary

Highland Electric Fleets is seeking a Field Service Technician in Dallas to service electric buses and charging stations. You will perform OEM-approved testing, repairs, and troubleshooting to keep buses moving and up to standards.

Expect to work with a collaborative team, use advanced diagnostic skills, and participate in ongoing training, CDL/ASE pathways, and safety protocols. A competitive package accompanies a strong field service culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years Electrician, EV, or fleet repair experience.
  • Advanced diagnostic, electrical, and AC skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and maintenance documents.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Possess tools for a Medium Duty technician and electrical diagnostics tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Act as on-site advocate for EVs and EVSBs, aiming for 90% uptime.
  • Represent the company at customer locations with professionalism.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and report unsafe practices.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform EV and charger repairs; test-drive to verify resolution.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for troubleshooting and repairs in asset management system.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for repairs and follow-ups.
  • Assist in training junior technicians and provide guidance.
  • Perform road calls and on-site repairs as required.
  • Participate in OEM and internal trainings.

The Field Service Technician is enthusiastic about EVs and a self-starter who will work closely with customers to ensure that Highland’s electric vehicles and charging stations are working properly and that buses can get students to where they need to be. No day will look the same, but responsibilities will include performing original equipment manufacturer-approved testing, repairs, and troubleshooting customer issues.

Highland will provide the relevant training to repair all local equipment including basic electric vehicle functions, Level 2 EV chargers to DC Fast Chargers, and communications equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the company’s on-site advocate for EV’s and EVSBs, striving to achieve 90% overall uptime
  • Represent the company at customer locations with the highest standards of professional conduct
  • Retains a clean and safe work environment and brings any unsafe practices or conditions to management
  • Diagnoses malfunctions and performs electric vehicle and charger repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, etc.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State/Provincial and local guidelines and requirements. Test-drives vehicles to ensure repair resolved
  • Maintain detailed and timely documentation for troubleshooting and repairs, records time and materials used for each assignment in asset management platform
  • Assist in managing of external support vendors to follow up and document repairs being made to Highland’s assets
  • Provides repair and maintenance assistance to junior technician staff
  • Performs road calls and on the road repairs as assigned.
  • Undergo electric vehicle and charger OEM and internal trainings
Desired Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5+ years Electrician, Electric Vehicle, or Medium/Heavy duty truck Fleet repair experience
  • Advanced Diagnostic, Electrical, and AC skills required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Knowledge of MS Suite products
  • Possess the recommended tools for a Medium Duty technician as well as electrical diagnostics tooling
  • Flexibility to work bus depot hours (early morning to afternoon) and weekends (when on scheduled shift)
  • Clean Driving Record is required
  • Requirements within 12 months of employment: Commercial Driver’s License Required / Minimum 3 ASE certifications required (bonus compensation available if greater) / and Minimum of 4 OEM Certifications required (bonus compensation available if greater)

$75,000 - $85,000 a year
