Job summary

Optimal is seeking an ePD Technician II/Sr. Technician to maintain electric vehicle development fleets and support prototype builds. You will install instrumentation, diagnose issues, and assist engineering with testing and evaluations across multiple locations in the United States.

The role requires 4+ years as an Automotive Technician, ASE and Michigan certifications, and experience with EV battery systems and high‑voltage testing. Travel up to 70% across the U.S. is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Automotive Repair or related program.
• ASE Certification.
• Michigan State Mechanic Certification.
• 4+ years as Automotive Technician.
• Experience with EV energy storage systems and battery systems.
• Experience with vehicle testing equipment and testing processes.
• Ability to read, interpret, and maintain technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair activities on electric vehicles.
• Diagnose vehicle issues using diagnostic tools and equipment (OEM GDS experience preferred).
• Conduct post-repair testing to ensure vehicles are operating correctly.
• Ensure all repair work meets manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
• Support prototype vehicle builds and system modifications.
• Install and maintain instrumentation required for vehicle testing and data collection.
• Construct and install test harnesses for vehicle systems.
• Safely apply testing equipment to EV high-voltage battery systems.
• Travel to vehicle testing sites across the United States (up to 70%).
