Base pay range

$55,154.00/yr - $81,257.00/yr

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must be serving permanently in the title of Engineering Technician or be reachable on the open competitive civil service list in Exam #2040 or #5068.

The Parking Management, Facilities, and Capital Projects Unit manages the City’s municipal parking infrastructure and sustainability initiatives. It oversees 8 multi-level parking garages and 30 municipal parking fields, aiming to incorporate sustainability and environmental safety into parking facilities.

Role

The Facilities Management & Sustainability Projects Group seeks a detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support the City’s EV charging infrastructure and operational functions of municipal parking facilities. Responsibilities include planning and oversight of EV charging stations, inspecting parking structures, designing parking layouts, and coordinating vendors. The candidate will:

  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and operation of Level 2 and fast-charging stations.
  • Conduct site visits, collect data, and generate reports and visualizations.
  • Inspect parking garages for safety and compliance.
  • Design parking layouts using AutoCAD and review technical drawings.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, proposals, and maintenance plans.
  • Respond to public and official complaints.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to monitor EV charger performance.
  • Support administrative and technical tasks as needed.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program.

Hours

35 hours/week, M-F, 7 am – 3 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • High school diploma + 2 years full-time experience as an engineering technician, or
  • Associate degree in engineering technology, or
  • Equivalent education and experience (see notes below).

Special Note: One year of experience is credited for every 30 semester credits toward an engineering technology degree. A NYS Motor Vehicle Driver License is required for some positions.

Additional Qualifications

For Level III & IV:

  • At least one year of satisfactory service as an Engineering Technician with NYC, or
  • Baccalaureate in engineering technology, or
  • Two additional years of related experience, or
  • Equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure is a plus.
  • Knowledge of parking design standards and safety.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in the field.
