Job summary

Stronghold Companies is seeking an HSSE Supervisor to support the HSSE team with planning, coordinating, and implementing effective HSSE policies and procedures to meet department objectives. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the project by maintaining a visible presence in the field performing site visits to the entire project.
  • Implement safety-related changes on site, as required.
  • Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the HSSE programs in the field.
  • Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance.
  • Inform the project management team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project.
  • Organize and schedule required safety staff and first aid coverage.
  • Provide direction and support and resource to all site managers, supervisors, foreman, and safety personnel.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported immediately to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate and assist in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.
  • Review safety obligations of the clients and ensure they are carried out as per the terms of the agreement and communicated to the Project Manager, Supervisors, Foreman and Safety personnel.
  • Ensure safety boards with postings including but not limited to Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained and current.
  • Communicate, coach, and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.
  • Lead and assist safety teams to accomplish goals consistent with production objectives and the site HSE policy and HSE system(s).
  • Investigate incidents, analyze data, identify trends, and develop corrective measures to identify risk reduction and corrective actions across the job site and the Company.
  • Oversee craft safety meetings to ensure effectiveness.
  • Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  • Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Overview

A HSSE Supervisor will perform work as required to maximize the quality of the Company while maintaining the specified expectations of the client and ensure safe working environment while performing work and will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position will have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: This job operates in a petrochechemical / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months; exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees are required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the position of a HSSE Supervisor may be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. A HSSE Manager will frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work: This is a project- based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

Travel: Travel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and 7 years’ experience in a safety related position in the petrochemical/ refinery industry. First Aid and CPR trained. Class “A” driver’s license and a clean MVR. Must have a valid TWIC.

Preferred Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and 10 years’ experience in a safety related position in the petrochemical/ refinery industry.
