Job summary

Stronghold Companies is seeking an experienced HSE Supervisor to support the project’s safety objectives on a petrochemical/refinery site. You will supervise safety personnel, drive incident investigations, and implement HSE programs to protect workers and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires field visits, strong leadership, and the ability to coordinate with project management while traveling across the United States.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 7 years’ safety experience in petrochemical/refinery.
  • First Aid and CPR trained; valid TWIC.
  • Class A driver’s license with clean MVR.
  • Preferred: 3+ years’ experience in safety in petrochemical/refinery environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide field safety presence with site visits.

Overview

Summary/ ObjectiveThe position of a HSE Supervisor is responsible to support the HSE team with planning, coordinating, and implementing of effective HSE policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure that the department objectives are met. A HSE Supervisor will perform work as required to maximize the quality of the Company while maintaining the specified expectations of the client and ensure safe working environment while performing work and will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Provide support to the project by maintaining a visible presence in the field performing site visits to the entire project.
  • 2. Implement safety-related changes on site, as required.
  • 3. Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the HSE programs in the field.
  • 4. Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance.
  • 5. Inform the project management team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project.
  • 6. Organize and schedule required safety staff and first aid coverage.
  • 7. Provide direction and support and resource to all site managers, supervisors, foreman, and safety personnel.
  • 8. Ensure all incidents are reported immediately to appropriate personnel.
  • 9. Participate and assist in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause and corrective actions where necessary.
  • 10. Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed.
  • 11. Review safety obligations of the clients and ensure they are carried out as per the terms of the agreement and communicated to the Project Manager, Supervisors, Foreman and Safety personnel.
  • 12. Ensure safety boards with postings including but not limited to Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained and current.
  • 13. Communicate, coach, and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.
  • 14. Lead and assist safety teams to accomplish goals consistent with production objectives and the site HSE policy and HSE system(s).
  • 15. Investigate incidents, analyze data, identify trends, and develop corrective measures to identify risk reduction and corrective actions across the job site and the Company.
  • 16. Oversee craft safety meetings to ensure effectiveness.
  • 17. Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • 18. Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  • 19. Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
  • 20. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will have supervisory responsibilities.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a petrochechemical / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months; exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees are required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of the job, the position of a HSE Supervisor may be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. An HSE Manager will frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift more than 50 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of WorkThis is a project- based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

TravelTravel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time.
