Job summary

Green Plains Inc. in Indiana is seeking a Plant Operator to support safe, efficient fermentation and distillation operations under supervision of the Operations Manager.

You will learn to operate the DCS, follow SOPs for start-up and shutdown, collect samples, log data, and coordinate with maintenance and lab teams. No experience is required; a valid driver’s license is needed, with training provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to operate a utility vehicle.
• Hard-working and self-motivated with a positive attitude.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• No experience required; industrial plant experience helpful.
• Maintaining understanding of FRA, TTB and state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Learn all facets of the ethanol process including cook, distillation, evaporation, dryers, thermo oxidizer, centrifuges, grain system, and water treatment.
• Learn and operate DCS for the plant.
• Follow SOPs for start-up, shut down, cleaning and batching.
• Stay within operating parameters and notify management of problems.
• Keep accurate and timely logs.
• Collect samples and perform tests to ensure quality and record results.
• Monitor and adjust DCS according to sample results and parameters.
• Maintain a clean facility and common areas; ensure shift handoffs.
• Coordinate with maintenance and inform of mechanical issues.
• Communicate with the Laboratory and learn testing procedures (yeast counts, HPLC, GC).
• Notify Production/Plant Manager of production problems.
• Complete tasks assigned by Plant/Production Manager.
• Support other areas as needed and be available for overtime.
• Participate in safety programs and ongoing training; follow safety procedures.
