The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will plan and facilitate therapeutic recreational activities for students within HVED programs to enhance their educational experience. The program will run for 15 days:

  • June 16 - 18
  • June 23 - 26
  • July 7 - 10
  • July 14 - 17
  • HOURS: 8:00 am - 1:30 pm
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in recreational therapy
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist preferred, but not required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license to travel between HVED programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
Competencies
  • A genuine liking for working with kids of all abilities
  • Current knowledge of best practices in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Energetic and willing to make a difference in children's lives
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish a trusting therapeutic relationship with students
  • Use recreational therapeutic techniques to improve students' wellbeing
  • Plan and implement safe, accessible recreational activities
  • Develop new programs based on trends and student needs
  • Monitor and evaluate program quality
  • Order, inspect, and maintain equipment
  • Maintain records and reports, including billing
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • General physical activities including sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and keyboarding
Travel Requirements

This position primarily works out of the SAIL Program in Kellogg, MN.
