Job description

Estimator & Sales Representative
Key Details
  • Role Type: Estimating + Sales
  • Industry: Construction / Engineering
  • Compensation: Base + Commission
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday

This is a dual-function role that combines the technical precision of estimating with the relationship-driven demands of sales. The Estimator & Sales Representative is responsible for assessing project costs, preparing accurate and competitive bids, and actively pursuing new business opportunities. This person bridges the gap between winning the work and pricing it right — making them a critical contributor to both revenue growth and project profitability.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in construction estimating alongside the commercial instinct to identify opportunities, build client relationships, and close deals. This is not a desk-only role — it requires presence in the market, engagement with clients, and the drive to grow a book of business while maintaining the analytical rigor that keeps every bid competitive and every project profitable.

Shaping Impact: Your Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bid Preparation
  • Review project plans, specifications, and technical documents to determine scope of work.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Analyze drawings and other bid documents to identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather pricing and confirm scope.
  • Assist in developing bid proposals and compiles all necessary documentation.
  • Conduct market research to stay informed of current prices for materials and labor.
  • Evaluate and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Identify potential risks or uncertainties that could impact costs or project timelines.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, bid documents, changes, and correspondence.
  • Support the negotiation process with clients and subcontractors.
Sales & Business Development
  • Prospect and develop new client relationships through cold calling, networking, referrals, and industry events.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the sales and estimating process — from initial inquiry through bid submission and award.
  • Present proposals and cost estimates to clients in a compelling, clear, and professional manner that builds confidence and drives decisions.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing client accounts and target markets.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and provide regular forecasting to leadership.
  • Attend industry events, trade shows, and client meetings to expand the company’s market presence and network.
  • Collaborate with project managers and leadership to align bid strategy with business development goals.
  • Track and report on bid win rates, pipeline activity, and sales performance metrics.
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships that generate repeat business and referrals.
  • Follow up on submitted bids with urgency and professionalism to maximize win rate.
Your Unique Qualifications
Required
  • Proven experience as an Estimator in construction, engineering, or a related industry.
  • Candidate must have proven track record of successfully operating a multi-state or large territory.

  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble, Procore) and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing cost estimates.
  • Good understanding of contracts, legal requirements, and bidding procedures.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills — equally effective in a technical conversation and a client meeting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates and sales opportunities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Proven track record building a market.
  • Superior customer service.
