Job summary

The Hagerman Group in Louisville, KY is seeking a seasoned Project Estimator to shape competitive bids for large-scale commercial construction before ground is broken. You will review plans, perform takeoffs, and collaborate with operations, PMs, field teams, safety, and business development to drive winning proposals.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in estimating, strong knowledge of construction methods and contract documents, and proficiency with OnScreen, Destini, BuildingConnected, Excel,

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years estimating experience in large-scale commercial construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, project schedules, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools; experience with OnScreen, Destini, and BuildingConnected preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements to define project scope and pricing strategies.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses for all applicable trades and self-performed work.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure complete and competitive project pricing.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and coordination meetings to assess project requirements and logistics.
  • Collaborate with operations, project management, field teams, safety, and business development to produce comprehensive estimates.
  • Analyze project risks, constructability considerations, labor requirements, and market conditions to support informed bidding decisions.

The Role:As a Project Estimator, you'll play a critical role in shaping project success before construction begins. You'll collaborate with industry professionals, evaluate complex commercial projects, and help develop competitive bids that drive company growth. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements to define project scope and pricing strategies.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses for all applicable trades and self-performed work.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure complete and competitive project pricing.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and coordination meetings to assess project requirements and logistics.
  • Collaborate with operations, project management, field teams, safety, and business development to produce comprehensive estimates.
  • Analyze project risks, constructability considerations, labor requirements, and market conditions to support informed bidding decisions.
  • Manage bid-day activities and maintain accurate estimating records using industry-standard estimating software.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, owners, architects, and engineers.
  • Participate in project turnover and closeout meetings to support continuous improvement and historical cost tracking.
  • Identify opportunities for value analysis, cost efficiencies, and competitive advantages throughout the estimating process.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in large-scale commercial construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, project schedules, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, subcontractor bid evaluations, and comprehensive project estimates.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools; experience with OnScreen, Destini, and BuildingConnected preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Preferred experience pricing labor and materials for concrete, carpentry, casework, doors, demolition, specialties, and other commercial building trades.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of a project team.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
