Job summary

MSS Solutions, LLC is seeking an Estimator – Mechanical to join our team in Charlotte, NC. This role involves estimating, bid preparation, and coordinating with vendors and subcontractors to deliver precise project proposals.

The candidate will develop quantity take-offs, review contracts, and support project managers with technical input to meet customer facility requirements. Strong HVAC knowledge and reading of blueprints are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years experience in the HVAC industry with at least 3 years of estimating experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and construction plans and specifications.
• Strong communication skills and work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Estimate, bid, review vendor and subcontractor proposals and purchasing processes.
• Develop detailed quantity take-offs and bid packages for subcontractors.
• Coordinate equipment, controls, and services for each project and finalize proposals.
• Support project managers with technical guidance and plan reviews.
• Work with team to ensure customer facility requirements are met.

Role and Responsibilities

• Will be involved throughout the estimating, bidding, vendor and subcontractor proposal review and purchasing processes.
• Ability to develop detailed quantity take-offs.
• Develop bid packages / contract scopes of work for subcontractors, evaluate subcontractor bids and issue contracts.
• Collects project data and compares to the office’s capabilities.
• Performs new equipment takeoffs.
• Prepares equipment submittals.
• Assists Managers and Project Managers with technical support.
• Performs construction plan review or other requirements as determined by project needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet all of the customer’s facility requirements.
• Provides knowledge and consultation in the form of developing facility-related solutions for the customer’s problems. Determines project needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet the entire customer’s Building system design and installation requirements.
• Develops, evaluates, and discusses possible solutions with Manager, Project Manager, Sub-contractor, Supplier, and/or customer.
• Coordinates selection, pricing, and integrates equipment, controls, and services for each project.
• Prepares, finalizes, and reviews preliminary and/or final proposal / submittal complete.
• Helps Manager determine proposal price and selling strategy.
• Resolves major deviations from scope with team after Project Scope Validation.
• Helps Manager develop project fulfillment schedule with project team.
• Prepares and reviews contract terms and conditions using standard contract templates when applicable.
• Works with team members to solicit proper expertise in order to meet customer needs.
• Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years experience (10 years preferred) in the HVAC industry and at least 3 years of estimating experience
• Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints and construction plans and specifications.
• Ability to understanding HVAC systems and controls and basic HVAC principles, concepts, and perform calculations
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong work ethic.

• Proficient with all Microsoft Office related products.
• Regular and supervisory probation period required, if applicable.
• Random drug testing required.
• Must successfully pass a background check & drug test.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
• Physical Demands: Constant sitting, walking short distances, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and/or below shoulder, handling/grasping documents or office equipment, clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in-person and/or on the telephone, vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data, repetitive motions for computer equipment use, lift 25 lbs. occasionally, 5-10 lbs frequently to lift/carry/move objects, files and documents.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment with air conditioning and bright lights.
