Job summary

Matrix Project Services in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Estimator II to develop estimates and support proposal work for API 620 tanks, specialty vessels, cryogenic/refrigerated tanks, and related equipment. The role requires takeoff accuracy, organizing data, and collaboration with project teams.

You will assist with subcontract pricing, budget interpretation, and preparing proposal documents while coordinating with engineering and procurement. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of field and/or office estimating experience.
  • Ability to visualize the finished product from drawings.
  • Familiarity with ENG/Proc/Fabrication/Construction terminology.
  • Strong math and numerical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates by taking off quantities from documents and organizing in an estimating database.
  • Create and manage estimates across API 620 tanks, tanks, foundations, and related components.
  • Solicit and assess subcontract and vendor pricing.
  • Review and develop proposal documentation for final review.
  • Track budgets vs. actual costs and provide technical support to project teams.
  • Conduct site or office visits as needed and handle multiple projects concurrently.

Job description

An Estimator II is responsible for the development of estimates and support in proposal development for various projects that requires knowledge of API 620 Tanks, Specialty vessels, Cryogenic/Refrigerated Tanks, Thermal Vacuum Chambers and balance of plant tagged equipment as well as the ability to do quantity take-offs from the available documents. This role will support the Engineering division with estimates that need to be organized to meet the Company’s and clients’ expected structure. The preferred location for this role is Pittsburgh, PA. Applicants will be considered from the following locations as well: Broomall, PA; Houston, TX; Tulsa, OK.

Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”

  • Maintains quality service by following the standard of ethics and integrity in company policy and ensures that company information and information entrusted to us by our clients is kept with the appropriate level of confidentiality.
  • Prepares estimates by assessing and calculating takeoff elements of the work accurately and assigns them to the appropriate items in an estimating database. Create and manage estimates across varying scopes and product lines to include API 620 Tanks, Specialty vessels, Cryogenic/Refrigerated Tanks, Thermal Vacuum Chambers and balance of plant tagged equipment. This includes but is not limited to the tank (s), foundations, platform and access, structural steel, electrical, instrumentation, piping and mechanical items associated with the project scope.
  • Assist in developing, soliciting, assessing and incorporating subcontract and vendor pricing utilizing uniform corporate structure into various estimates and proposals.
  • Assists in the review and development of proposal documentation prior to review, approval and transmittal.
  • Assists with interpreting budgets, assisting with tracking of estimated equipment budgets versus committed and actual costs.
  • Provides technical support to various project and proposal teams.
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering and organizing information for the estimate and proposal in a manner required to meet the needs of the project.
  • Performs work on multiple projects concurrently with ability to prioritize.
  • Reviews pertinent documentation and conducts site visits and/or office visits as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering highly preferred or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of degree.
  • 2+ years of appropriate field and/or office experience.
  • Ability to visualize the finished product from the drawings and other documents provided.
  • Familiarity with Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Construction and Commissioning work and terminology.
  • Good basic mathematical comprehension.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic team player, willing to adopt new ideas and methods.
  • Good computer skills including an operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with estimating software and database applications.
  • Project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) a plus.
  • Interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
  • Occasional travel and extended workdays may be required.
