Job summary

W3Global in Mulberry, FL is seeking an Estimator to join our team in industrial project bidding. You will handle the estimating process from RFQ receipt to full project estimate, working with customers and Upper Management to determine resources and scope.

The role requires a four-year construction/engineering degree (or equivalent) and at least four years of estimating or project control experience. Proficiency with CAD drawings and MS Office is essential.

  • Minimum four years estimating or project control experience.
  • Industrial construction experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend site walks to determine execution strategies.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations to verify resource availability.

  • Prepare estimates including labor, equipment, materials, take-offs, taxes.
  • Lead bid reviews with upper management.
  • Support handover to Project Management.

Job description

Job Summary
  • Must be able to prepare estimates, with minimal supervision, for projects ranging from small to large in industrial environments. Will work directly with customers to obtain necessary information to successfully prepare estimates for review by Upper Management.
  • As an Estimator for us, you will handle all functions of the estimating process from receipt of the RFQ to walking the project to determining the needed resources and developing a full estimate.
Typical Duties
  • Attend site walk through for RFQ's and assorted proposals to effectively determine execution strategies.
  • Work in conjunction with Field Operations to determine availability of resources and effectively translate constraints into the estimate being developed
  • Interpret and cipher drawings to determine scope of work and properly determine most effective method of approach
  • Work with customer to ensure a clear understanding of their needs
Thoroughly prepare estimate to ensure all items are accounted for:
  • Labor
  • Equipment
  • Materials
  • Take Offs
  • Taxes
  • Identify suppliers that will be the most cost effective for execution of the project through evaluation of quality, safety, pricing and delivery
  • For assigned projects, organize and lead Bid review with Upper Management.
  • Participate in handover/transition meeting to Project Management.
  • Maintain files of working documents and quotations for back-up to estimating figures.
  • Work with team members, as needed, to assist with other estimates being prepared.
  • Assist with awarded contracts as required - may include budget creation, estimating change orders, etc.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
  • Must be able to work extended hours with minimal notice to adjust to workload demands
  • Must be focused on working in a Team environment centered around a culture of Safety.
Required Qualifications
  • A four-year construction, engineering or related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience, plus four years estimating, project control, or engineering experience related to company's core competency.
  • Typical career tenure; year 5-10.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies
  • Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline and estimating technique is essential.
  • Must have experience with piping, plate, structural and rotating equipment
  • Must be able to calculate quantities such as weight, length, area, volume, etc., using basic geometry and trigonometry is required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawing and customer inquiry documents, etc. is essential.
  • Knowledge of company procedures and estimating standards, and specialized construction discipline required.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Efficient utilization and mastery of Microsoft Office suite products such as Word, Outlook and Excel
Working Environment
  • The majority of all proposals will be for Industrial Customers. This will result in exposure to heat, cold, noxious gases, live equipment, and assorted conditions related to chemical, manufacturing and power plants.
  • All Personal Protective Equipment needed, to guarantee a safe work environment, will be supplied by Company.

Physical Demands
  • Intervals of extended work hours
  • Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, and crouching;
  • Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting / force constantly to move objects; and
  • Frequent driving of motor vehicles.
