Job summary

VFP in Roanoke, VA is seeking an estimator to support bids and proposals. You will prepare written proposals, cost estimates, and compliance matrices from customer specs and input from Business Development Managers.

You will determine material quantities and labor needs for total job cost, coordinate with Purchasing and Human Resources, and follow up on quotations to ensure customer alignment with written proposals. Strong writing and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in bids and proposals to estimate costs and prepare written proposals and compliance matrices.
• Determine material quantities and labor required for total job cost using department data and supplier quotes.
• Coordinate with Purchasing to maintain material costs on shelter bid forms.
• Coordinate with HR to maintain labor costs on the shelter bid summary sheet.
• Assist Bids/Proposals with follow-up by phone on previous quotations.
• Verify that customer specifications and purchase orders align with written proposals.
• Perform other tasks as required by the Bids and Proposals Manager or Lead Estimator.

Job DetailsJob Location: HQ - Roanoke, VA 24018Prepares bids and written proposals based upon specifications provided directly by the customer and/or from the Business Development Managers. This position requires the ability to handle multiple tasks to meet customer-mandated time schedules.

• Assists in the bids and proposals process to estimate costs and prepares detailed written proposals and compliance matrices.
• Determines material quantities and labor required for total job cost. This is accomplished using tables and data established within the department and obtaining quotations from suppliers and/or subcontractors.
• Works with Purchasing to maintain accurate material costs on the shelter bid forms.
• Works with Human Resources to maintain accurate labor costs on the shelter bid summary sheet.
• Assists the Business Development Managers with follow-up by phone on previous quotations submitted to the customer.
• Checks and confirms that customer specifications and purchase orders are in acknowledgement of written proposals.
• Performs other tasks as required by the Bids and Proposals Manager or Lead Estimator.
