Job summary

Tate Metalworks, Inc. is seeking an Estimator to support engineering and sales in quoting custom storage tank projects.

You will review specifications, perform takeoffs, and develop detailed cost estimates for shop-fabricated and field-erected tanks, ensuring competitive bids. The role requires a degree in engineering technology or related field, plus strong Excel skills, API code familiarity, and the ability to manage multiple estimates with accuracy and urgency.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field.
• Experience in steel fabrication or industrial field services preferred.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Familiarity with API 650/620/653 codes is a plus.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills; attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic API 650 and API 620 tank design calculations for estimates.
• Develop detailed cost estimates for shop-fabricated and field-erected tanks.
• Prepare estimates for API 653 repair projects and modifications.
• Review inquiries, specs, drawings to determine project scope.
• Coordinate with sales to develop bid strategies.
• Interface with project managers, engineering, and shop personnel.
• Maintain estimating databases and pricing information.
