Firm Summary

Transet Company is a Longview-based contracting firm offering general contracting, construction management, and design/build services. A leader in the East Texas construction industry since 1982, markets include commercial, healthcare, industrial, institutional, higher education, and K-12 schools. Position Summary

Transet is currently seeking an Estimator for projects in the northeast Texas area. This position is based out of our Longview, TX office.

The Role

This is a skilled estimator role, pivotal to the short and long-term success of the firm, and requires a candidate with integrity, experience, and professionalism. Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

1. Responsible for bids and proposals of all types. This will range from negotiated work, to CMAR, to design-build, to traditional design-bid-build procurement methods.
2. IMPORTANT: The focus of this role will be traditional design-bid-build procurement, i.e. “Hard bidding” against competing general contractors.
3. Involvement in all sizes of projects will be necessary, from $1,000 to $100,000,000.
4. Lead the effort of our pre-construction services.
5. Identify high-risk bid document / scope provisions and implement strategies to mitigate risk during pre-construction.
6. Lead pricing, value engineering, site selection investigations, and building assessments.
7. Set up projects for success by establishing cost, schedule, and safety expectations during pre-construction.
8. Establish a strong rapport with the bidding subcontractor and supplier marketplace, building upon Transet’s existing relationships with trade partners.
9. Work with our Project Managers to facilitate the successful completion of projects.
10. Conform to applicable company policies and procedures and uphold ethical standards.
11. Report directly to and work closely with firm Owner & President, Chris Tucker.

Success Factors

1. At least 5 years of estimating experience with commercial (and/or industrial) construction projects of $5MM+.
2. Note: This is not just limited to candidates with experience working for general contractors. Candidates with experience working for subcontractors and suppliers are welcome to apply.
3. Demonstrated experience as lead and/or sole estimator on awarded bids.
4. Demonstrated experience that awarded bids resulted in successful and profitable projects.
5. Demonstrated experience in thriving in the high-pressure environment of competitive bidding.
6. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
7. Superior financial, time management, communication, and analytical skills.
8. Exceptional relationship-building and collaboration competencies.
9. Demonstrated leadership ability is essential.
10. Desire to be an integral part of a tight-knit company in a small office setting while being a part of both small and large projects that have tremendous impact in the community.
11. Tech savvy, with experience using MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and estimating software. Estimating software will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual.
