Job summary

VHV Company is seeking an Estimator to prepare accurate HVAC and plumbing cost estimates and proposals for plan-and-spec projects. You will review plans, specs, and schedules, identifying value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.

Collaborating with engineering and project teams, you will perform quantity takeoffs, solicit vendor pricing, and ensure estimates align with scope and local codes, while maintaining organized cost data.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–5 years of experience estimating HVAC and plumbing systems in commercial or industrial construction.
• Strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems, materials, and installation methods.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office (industry-specific software a plus).
• Strong analytical, communication, and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed HVAC and plumbing cost estimates and proposals for plan-and-specification projects.
• Assist the engineering team with estimating design-build HVAC and plumbing projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and schedules to identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for HVAC and plumbing systems, including equipment, piping, ductwork, fixtures, and controls.
• Solicit, evaluate, and analyze vendor and subcontractor pricing.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams during the preconstruction phase.
• Ensure estimates align with project scope, specifications, and local codes.
• Maintain organized estimating records and cost databases.

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive proposals and estimates. This role involves reviewing project plans and specifications for HVAC and plumbing systems, supporting design-build estimating efforts, and identifying value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs and performance.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% 100%) of the workday
• Ability and willingness to travel to local as well as remote locations (out of town, out of state) for short and/or extended periods of time.
• Ability to hear and verbally communicate effectively.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction).
• Use hands, fingers, arms, and legs to safely manipulate objects.
• Lift and carry supplies and materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
• Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist.
• Wear the proper PPE: safety boots that cover at least the ankle, clean denim or appropriate work pants without tears or rips, safety glasses, and gloves, if visiting a job site.
