Job summary

Performance Contracting Group, a national specialty contractor, seeks an experienced Estimator for its Washington DC-area operations. The role focuses on estimating PCI scopes of work, performing quantitative takeoffs, and engaging with vendors and clients.

The position emphasizes accurate cost analysis, collaboration with project teams, and progression through bid reviews leading to secure projects. Safety and customer satisfaction drive daily activities.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 2 years' experience estimating construction projects.
  • Experience estimating or managing specialty scopes of construction.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and interpret specifications and drawings.
  • Record of establishing and maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
  • High attention to detail and cost analysis skills.
  • Ability to read project schedules to determine sequencing and durations.
  • Proficient with takeoff/estimating software and MS Office tools.
  • Solid understanding of estimating techniques and bidding process.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently; quick learner and problem solver.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantitative takeoffs on construction projects.
  • Establish labor productivities for estimates.
  • Maintain positive relationships with area vendors for pricing.
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing for work outside our self-performing group.
  • Understand market conditions for margin planning.
  • Participate in internal bid reviews with supervisors and project teams.
  • Interact with customers to align objectives and maintain relations.
  • Contract administration for secured projects.
  • Utilize wage and benefit schedules in estimates.
  • Handoff secured projects to Operations team; support change orders and billings as needed.
  • Collaborate with Estimating team on product-line initiatives.

Job Description

Performance Contracting is seeking an experienced Estimator for its Washington DC #566 operations based in Ashburn, VA. This individual will be responsible for estimating PCI scopes of work.

Job responsibilities
  • Perform quantitative takeoffs on construction projects
  • Establish labor productivities for estimate
  • Maintain positive relationships with area vendors for competitive material and equipment pricing
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing for work done outside of our self-performing group
  • Understand the market conditions including competitive approach, backlog, level or risk for work, and other factors for establishing margin percentages
  • Involvement in internal bid reviews with supervisors and project teams
  • Participate in customer alignment objectives by creating and maintaining positive customer relations
  • Contract administration for secured projects
  • Utilize wage and benefit schedules
  • Hand off secured projects to the Operations team
  • Assist in other duties as assigned such as change order management or billings depending on the project(s)
  • Support other members of the Estimating team for product line collaboration

Salary range: $90,000 to $110,000 annual salary plus non-guaranteed annualized bonus program.

This position is safety sensitive.

Basic Requirements
  • Must have at least 2 years' experience estimating construction projects
  • Experience with estimating or managing specialty scopes of construction
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and interpret specifications and drawings for PCI's scopes of work, specifications, materials, and methods
  • Has a record of establishing and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail and cost analysis skills
  • Ability to accurately read project schedules to determine sequencing and durations of scopes of work
  • Proficiency with computer takeoff and estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff and Quick Bid
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g., Excel, Word), Bluebeam Revu, Procore, or PlanSwift
  • Must have a sharp understanding of estimating techniques and the bidding process
  • Ability to work effectively both in a collaborative team environment and independently
  • Ability to learn new skills by engaging in technical job functions and applying new skills as they're learned
  • Possess critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline
  • Experience with drywall and framing.
  • OSHA certification
  • Experience working with union representatives
  • Local to the Washington DC area
