Job summary

STO Building Group in Utah seeks an Estimator to prepare estimates for commercial projects, ensuring cost accuracy with the project team and assisting other estimators and managers in diverse estimating tasks.

The role covers hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating, reading contract documents, performing quantity take-offs, soliciting bids, and aiding bid proposals and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience in civil engineering, construction mgmt or related field.
• 1+ year estimating commercial construction projects with hard-bid, design-build or conceptual estimating.
• Proficiency with Timberline and Excel; working knowledge of Word.
• Experience reading contracts, plans, specs and addenda.
• Strong communication and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for potential projects using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Read and understand contract docs including plans, specs and addenda.
• Perform quantity take-offs, organize and price information.
• Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicate pricing with subs and suppliers to clarify details.
• Prepare estimate formats for general conditions, bid analysis and related areas.
• Assist with bid proposals and outline project schedules.
• Support staff on special estimating projects as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Duties

• Prepares estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 1 year experience in estimating commercial construction projects, showing competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
• Excellent working knowledge of Timberline and Excel software.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Primavera systems preferred.
