Power Design is seeking an Estimator – Change Order to prepare accurate estimates and cost analyses for project changes across multiple disciplines from our St. Petersburg, Florida headquarters.

You will support preconstruction and project teams by managing pricing adjustments, verifying scope changes, and ensuring financial accuracy through detailed estimating. Collaboration across departments drives accuracy and profitability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or journeyman license with 2+ years estimating experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Bluebeam; experienced with ConEST or Accubid.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and contracts.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills; able to balance multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed change order estimates for electrical, low voltage, mechanical, and specialty systems.
  • Review design and construction documents to identify scope changes and quantify cost impacts.
  • Use estimating software and databases to generate cost projections, takeoffs, and labor analyses.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to confirm constructability and labor needs.
  • Perform pricing and cost analysis for materials, subcontractors, and labor to ensure profitability.
  • Draft and review bid documents consistent with standards and client requirements.
  • Support preconstruction and field operations with timely change order estimates.
  • Provide cost-saving recommendations and process improvements.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and version control in estimating platforms.
  • Mentor junior estimators and stay aligned with company values.

About The Position

Working from our state‑of‑the‑art headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, this role supports preconstruction and project teams by managing pricing adjustments, verifying scope changes, and ensuring financial accuracy through detailed estimating. You’ll work collaboratively across teams to drive accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed and accurate change order estimates for electrical, low voltage, mechanical, and specialty systems.
  • Review design and construction documents to identify changes in scope and quantify cost impacts.
  • Utilize estimating software and internal databases to generate cost projections, material takeoffs, and labor analysis.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to confirm constructability, labor needs, and project conditions.
  • Perform pricing and cost analysis for materials, subcontractors, and labor to ensure accuracy and profitability.
  • Draft and review bid documents, ensuring consistency with Power Design’s standards and client requirements.
  • Support preconstruction and field operations by ensuring all change order estimates are completed in a timely, professional manner.
  • Provide recommendations for cost‑saving measures and process improvements.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and version control in estimating platforms.
  • Participate in onboarding and mentorship for junior estimators and associate team members.
  • Demonstrate and uphold Power Design’s core values of integrity, accountability, teamwork, innovation, and growth.
Here’s What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree or Journeyman’s license (or industry equivalent) plus 2+ years of relevant estimating experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Bluebeam or other PDF‑editing software.
  • Experience using estimating software (such as ConEST or Accubid) required.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Understanding of financial and operational drivers that impact project success.
