Job summary

Goodfellow Bros Inc seeks an Estimator to join our Reno, NV team. The role develops accurate estimates for public and private heavy civil projects, defines scope, and coordinates with subs to ensure competitive pricing.

You will support bid development, risk review, and preconstruction activities, and may mentor less experienced team members throughout pursuit-to-execution. Competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have 3–5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering or a related field.
• Strong understanding of public and private procurement methods.
• Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate, timely estimates and pricing strategies for projects.
• Review plans, specs, soils reports and bid documents to define scope.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing and coverage.
• Prepare bid deliverables, schedules, and executive summaries.
• Support change order pricing and project transitions after award.
• Assist in preconstruction activities to support client planning and relationships.

PositionSummary

TheEstimatorisresponsiblefordevelopingaccurate,timely,andcompetitiveestimatesforpublicandprivateheavycivilconstructionprojects.Thisroleevaluatesprojectopportunities,developspricingstrategies,andpreparescompletebidandproposalpackages.TheEstimatoralsosupportsprojectteamsafterawardbyprovidingestimatinginsight,assistingwithchangeorderpricingandissueresolution,andhelpingensureasuccessfultransitionfrompursuitthroughprojectexecution.Thispositionmayalsoprovideguidanceandmentorshiptolessexperiencedteammembers.

PositionDescription

Estimating&BidDevelopment

• Reviewprojectplans,specifications,soilsreports,andotherbiddocumentstounderstandprojectrequirementsanddevelopanoverallestimatingstrategy.
• Defineprojectscopeanddetermineappropriateself-performandsubcontractedwork.
• Evaluatebiddocumentrevisionsandassesstheirimpactonprojectscope,cost,schedule,andrisk.
• Coordinateandoverseequantitytakeoffswhileidentifyingkeyestimatingconsiderationsincludingaccess,phasing,productionconstraints,andmajorscopedrivers.
• Developdetailedactivitylevelpricinganddurationsusinglabor,equipment,materials,subcontractorpricing,historicalcostinformation,andproductiondata.

PreBidPlanning&SiteInvestigation

• Participateinprebidmeetingsandprojectsitevisitstoidentifyconditions,constraints,risks,andopportunitiesthatmayimpacttheestimate.
• Incorporatesitefindingsandprojectspecificconsiderationsintotheestimatingapproach.

Subcontractor&SupplierCoordination

• Identify,solicit,andcoordinatewithsubcontractors,suppliers,andserviceproviders.
• Reviewproposals,requestclarifications,andconfirmappropriatescopecoveragetominimizegapsandimprovepricingaccuracy.

Cost,Schedule&RiskManagement

• Developaccurateandcompetitiveestimatesthatsupportprojectprofitabilityandregionalobjectives.
• Identifyandcommunicateprojectrisksandopportunitieswhilesupportingthedevelopmentofappropriatemitigationstrategies.
• Prepareprojectschedulesandensureestimatingassumptionsalignwithanticipatedproductionandexecutionplans.

BidReview&Submission

• Preparefinalestimates,schedules,executivesummaries,andotherrequiredbiddeliverables.
• Coordinatepeerandmanagementreviewsandaddressoutstandingitemspriortobidsubmission.
• Maintainorganizedestimatingdocumentation,pricingsupport,andbidrecordsforfuturereferenceorturnovertotheprojectteamwhenworkisawarded.

Preconstruction&ProjectSupport

• Provideconceptualandbudgetaryestimatesduringpreconstructiontosupportclientplanningandrelationshipdevelopment.
• Assistprojectteamswithchangeorderpricing,additionalscopeestimates,andotherestimatingneedsthroughoutprojectexecution.

BusinessDevelopment

• Buildandmaintainrelationshipswithclients,subcontractors,suppliers,andindustrypartners.
• Helpidentifyfutureprojectopportunitiesandsupportthedevelopmentofastrongregionalprojectpipeline.

Thispositionoffersasalaryrangeof$125,000to$175,000,dependingonrelevantexperience,qualifications,andskills.

RequiredEducation,Experience,andTechnicalKnowledge

• CandidatesmusthavethelegalrighttoworkintheUSwithoutemployersponsorship.
• Bachelor’sDegreeinConstructionManagement,CivilEngineering,orrelatedfield,orequivalentexperience.
• 3-5+yearsofheavycivilconstructionexperiencewithestimatingresponsibilities.
• Experiencewithearthwork,undergroundutilities,concrete,grading,paving,structuralexcavation,andsitedevelopment.
• Strongunderstandingofpublicandprivateworkprocurementmethods.
• Experiencemanagingprojectsupto$20Mpreferred.
• ProficiencywithHCSSHeavyBid,HCSSHeavyJob,MicrosoftExcel,Word,andProject.
• ValidDriver’sLicenseandacceptabledrivingrecord.
