Job summary

W3Global seeks an Electrical Estimator to support renewable energy, wind and BESS projects across the U.S. You will verify plans, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, and develop costed electrical scopes under the Estimation Manager.

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or estimation diploma with 10+ years of experience is required. Proficiency in Bluebeam, Bid2Win, HCSS, Procore, and MS Office is expected. Hybrid travel to project sites nationwide.

• 10+ years of relevant estimating experience; field experience is a plus.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Estimation Manager, the Electrical Electrical Estimator

Responsibilities And Duties

• Verify electrical plans and specifications and collect all documents required for the completion of the estimate, including construction drawings, specifications, addenda, tender forms, equipment schedules, single-line diagrams, and general and special conditions.
• Review electrical drawings, specifications, contractual conditions, and project requirements and identify potential risks, gaps, exclusions, and opportunities to the Estimation Manager
• Perform detailed electrical quantity takeoffs for equipment, materials, labour, and installation requirements.
• Review and estimate electrical scopes including, but not limited to:
• DC collection systems
• Inverters and transformers
• Medium-voltage collection systems
• MV switchgear and equipment
• BESS electrical systems
• Battery containers and associated electrical infrastructure
• Underground and overhead electrical distribution
• Medium- and high-voltage cabling
• Cable tray and conduit systems
• Grounding and bonding
• SCADA, communications, and control systems
• Auxiliary power systems
• Lighting and site electrical systems
• Substation and interconnection scope
• Review electrical one-line diagrams, site layouts, equipment schedules, cable schedules, and civil drawings to understand project scope and identify estimating requirements.
• Coordinate with external consultants, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to develop preliminary engineering solutions and determine the most cost-effective and constructible approach.
• Prepare and send technical questions and requests for clarification (RFI/QRT) to clients and consultants.
• Develop construction methodologies and sequencing for electrical works and provide input into the preliminary project schedule.
• Prepare and send tender documents and RFQs to qualified electrical suppliers, subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, and vendors.
• Obtain, review, level, and analyze quotations received from suppliers and electrical subcontractors.
• Evaluate labour requirements, productivity rates, material costs, equipment requirements, and installation methods.
• Extract and verify electrical quantities using the company's estimating tools and provide detailed quantity breakdowns.
• Research and maintain current electrical material, equipment, labour, and subcontractor pricing.
• Attend coordination meetings, site visits, and pre-bid meetings and assess site conditions and project complexity for estimating purposes.
• Perform project cost estimates using the software and tools utilized by the company.
• Prepare project-specific electrical costs, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, temporary works, mobilization, and installation requirements.
• Prepare project overheads and general conditions related to electrical construction activities.
• Ensure estimates are structured according to the appropriate cost breakdown and project coding requirements.
• Identify opportunities for value engineering, cost optimization, constructability improvements, and alternative electrical solutions.
• Maintain continuous communication with external consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the tendering process until contract award.
• Participate in estimate reviews and bid closing activities.
• Ensure all electrical estimating documentation, quotations, assumptions, exclusions, and supporting information are properly documented and archived.
• Participate in the post-bid review and estimate post-mortem to identify lessons learned and improve future estimates.
• Following contract award, participate in the project handover meeting with the Project Management, Construction, Procurement, and Engineering teams to ensure a clear transfer of the estimate, scope, assumptions, and risks.

Requirements

• Hold a college diploma in estimation or a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years of relevant experience in estimating and experience on site is preferred
• Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, equipment, and installation practices.
• Experience in Solar & BESS, and Wind is considered an asset.
• Experience estimating utility-scale renewable energy projects is strongly preferred.
• Experience with medium-voltage electrical systems and electrical balance of plant.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, and technical documentation.
• Experience with electrical quantity takeoffs and cost estimating.
• Construction or field experience is considered an asset.
• Demonstrate an interest in the renewable energy sector.
• Communicate easily in English, both orally and in writing
• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Bluebeam, knowledge of Bid2win, HCSS, and Procore is considered an asset
• Demonstrate intellectual curiosity
• Excellent analytical skills, meticulousness and great attention to detail
• Versatility, autonomy and resourcefulness
• Excellent ability to handle pressure and stress.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

• Majority of the time, work is done in an office or remote environment, and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment - computer, keyboard, copy machine and printer, etc.
• Must be able to exchange accurate information so that others will understand, must be able to observe details at close range.
