Job description

Our client, a well-established General Contractor with a strong portfolio of public sector projects, is seeking an experienced Estimator to support ongoing and upcoming work across Northern Illinois.

This role will oversee all estimating and pre-construction activities for public construction projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, competitive bid preparation, and full compliance with municipal and state requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting project planning, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and contributing to successful project delivery from concept through award.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop detailed takeoffs and pricing
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids
• Develop conceptual budgets and pre‑construction cost analyses
• Coordinate closely with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process
• Maintain up‑to‑date pricing databases for labor, materials, and equipment
• Ensure compliance with local, municipal, and state construction regulations and bid requirements
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope review meetings
• Assist with value engineering and cost‑saving initiativesSupport successful hand off from estimating to operations teams

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in construction estimating
• Experience estimating public sector projects such as schools, municipal buildings, infrastructure, or government facilities preferred
• Strong knowledge of public bidding processes, construction methods, and cost controls
• Experience with estimating software and quantity takeoff programs
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines effectively
• Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
• OSHA 30 (preferred)
• Proven ability to deliver accurate and competitive estimates
