Job summary

SMS group Inc. seeks a cost estimator/quote administrator to collaborate with Plant Management and Sales on job costs and quotations. You will feed data into GSS, route jobs, and open won quotes, while programming CNC machines to optimize efficiency and quality.

Ideal candidates will interpret drawings and specifications, possess a solid mechanical background, and excel in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret detail drawings, technical specifications, and production orders.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with DIN Spec Standards is a plus.
• Competent with MS Word and Excel.
• Good organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
• Creative and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Estimate job costs using bid specifications, drawings, and data to produce accurate cost analyses.
• Prepare and send quote documents to customers.
• Enter quote data and router information into GSS for tracking.
• Open jobs for won quotes and program CNC machines to optimize productivity and quality.
• Monitor machine program performance and seek process improvements.
• Track job performance and deviations from quoted times and costs.

Summary

Work with Plant Management and Sales Team to estimate job costs, prepare quotations and route jobs within the workshop.

What you’ll do

• Estimate job costs using customer bid specifications, detail drawings, historical data, and other information prepare accurate job cost analysis including:
  • Determine work scope, tools, and equipment requirements
  • Raw Material Costs
  • Freight Costs
  • Outside Service and Sub-Contractor Costs
  • Machine Cycle Times
  • Fabrication Man-hours
  • Inspection Man-hours
  • Assembly Man-hours
• Prepare and send quote documents to customers
• Enter quote data into GSS for tracking purposes
• Enter router information into GSS
• Open Jobs for "won" quotes
• Program CNC Machines to optimize productivity and quality
• Monitor performance of machine programs and evaluate opportunities to improve processes.
• Track job performance and monitor for deviations from quoted times and costs.

What you’ll need

• Proficient in reading and interpreting detail drawings, technical specifications, and production orders
• Good mechanical background
• Experience working with DIN Spec Standards is a plus
• Good computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Excel
• Good organizational skills
• Good interpersonal and communications skills
• Creativity and problem-solving abilities
• Flexibility to respond to a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in priorities
