Job summary

S&R Corporation in Lowell, MA is seeking a full-time Construction Estimator to join our team. You’ll plan, bid, and manage cost estimates for commercial, civil, and bridge projects, with a structured schedule from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

You will review plans, perform quantity takeoffs, coordinate with vendors, and lead bid reviews with the Department Manager. The role requires strong reading of plans and accuracy, with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of construction experience in commercial, civil, and bridge work.
• 5+ years estimating and bidding heavy civil work.
• Familiarity with public bid processes.
• Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
• Knowledge of cost estimation methods and safety costs.

Responsibilities

• Attend planning meetings to decide which projects to bid and bid approach.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and walk-throughs to understand projects.
• Decide whether to do work in-house or hire subcontractors and obtain quotations.
• Review plans, specifications, and geotech reports to inform estimates.
• Perform cost calculations, quantity takeoffs, and analyze construction methods.
• Lead bid reviews with the Department Manager and communicate outcomes to the project team.
• Identify potential risks and include safety costs in estimates.

WHAT YOUR DAY IS LIKE AS AN CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR

This position requires you to work from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. You will enjoy a regular schedule while contributing to our projects.

As a Construction Estimator, your day will start with planning meetings where you will help decide which projects to bid on and how to approach the bids. You may attend pre-bid meetings and walk-throughs to understand the projects better. Your tasks will include figuring out whether to do the work in-house or hire subcontractors and reaching out to vendors and suppliers for their quotations. You will also review plans, specifications, and Geotech reports. Your role involves calculating costs, performing quantity takeoffs, and analyzing different ways to complete the construction. You will participate in bid reviews with the Department Manager and, once a project is awarded, pass important information on to the project team. You will be responsible for identifying potential risks and including safety costs in your estimates.

WHAT'S NEEDED FROM A CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR?

• 7+ years of construction experience, preferably in commercial, civil, and bridge construction
• 5+ years of experience estimating and bidding heavy civil work
• Familiarity with public bid processes
• Competency in using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software
• Ability to read and understand plans for grading and drainage, paving, foundations, and off-site roadways
• Skills in performing takeoffs and understanding heavy equipment performance specifications
• Decision-making skills and the ability to work in a high-production environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong time management abilities
• Attention to detail with the capacity to recognize discrepancies
• Planning and negotiation skills
• Must live within 1 hour of the job location

A valid driver's license and experience with B2W software, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and Trimble Business Center are a plus!

Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screening test.
