Job summary

Blue Heron is seeking a Construction Estimator to join our Elite division. You will generate project budgets and monitor costs through design changes and value engineering.

The role requires coordinating with clients, vendors, and the design team to support development, bidding, and contract formation. Experience in residential, commercial, or high-end projects is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of estimating experience in residential, commercial, or high-end construction.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A degree in a construction-related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing blueprints and contracts.
• Support design development with ongoing estimating input for planning and scheduling.
• Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future projects.
• Consult with clients, vendors, and field teams to discuss and resolve estimate issues.
• Analyze subcontractor bids and provide recommendations for contracts based on bid data.
• Finalize scope descriptions to support trades buyout and project cohesion.

Overview:

The Construction Estimator here at Blue Heron will be a part of our boundary pushing Elite division. The Construction Estimator will be responsible for generating the project budget and controlling that cost through design changes and value engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare cost estimates for construction projects and/or services by analyzing blueprints and other contract documents.
• Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work. Provide ongoing estimating support to the Design Team during Design Development.
• Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Analyze and compare subcontractor bids and make recommendations for contract awards using our bid leveling spreadsheets.
• Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
• Finalize ‘Scope of Work’ descriptions to support the contracting of trades to ensure cohesiveness of buyout.
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
• Follow cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
• Maintain bidding process, and conduct negotiations.
• Contribute to and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
• Prioritize your time to allow you to work on multiple projects at the same time.
