Job summary

Progressive Mechanical, Inc. is seeking an Estimator I to develop cost estimates for design/build and plan & spec projects by analyzing blueprints and customer specifications for more complex jobs.

You will work under minimal supervision, with guidance to less experienced estimators, and coordinate with sales and service on site visits to gather information. The role requires a 2–4 year college degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architectural Design and 3–6 years of estimating

Qualifications

• 2-4 year college degree or equivalent experience in construction/engineering fields.
• 3-6 years estimating experience in construction/mechanical contracting.
• Proficient with MS Office and estimation software.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost estimates for design/build and plan & spec projects by analyzing blueprints and customer specifications.
• Prepare routine estimates under minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with sales/service on site visits to gather information for estimates.
• Compare scope, quantities and cost data across projects.
• Identify company vs customer specs by reviewing all specs.
• Own project lifecycle and provide feedback on estimating variations and profitability.
• Work with senior estimators to pursue accurate estimates.
• Update senior estimators on issues affecting project success.
• Assist with sales strategy to close jobs.
• Stay current with computer software updates and attend required trainings.

Job description

Develop cost estimates for design/build and plan & spec jobs through analyzing blueprints and customer specifications for more complex projects. Works under minimal supervision and may provide some guidance to less experienced estimators.

Meets all minimum qualifications of Estimator I, in addition to the following:

• Prepare routine estimates under minimal supervision.
• Work with sales / service on site visits to gather information to propose estimates for customers
• Perform comparisons of scope, quantities and cost data between projects
• Sort through all specs to determine which ones are company specs and which ones are customer specs.
• Own project throughout lifecycle and seeks feedback on estimating variations and project profitability
• Works with senior level estimator(s) to successfully pursue an accurate estimate
• Keeps senior level estimators informed of key issues / opportunities that impact project success.
• Assist with sales strategy to close jobs

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Keep current and up-to-date with computer software updates
• Participate in company training programs and attend authorized external conferences or seminars as required to keep current in company and industry standards and operating procedures.
• Perform any special assignments, additional projects, or other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position as required by the executive team

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• 2-4 year college degree in relevant field such as Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural Design, and/or equivalent work experience
• 3-6 years of estimating experience in construction / mechanical contracting
• Strong working knowledge of computers, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet resources
• Prior experience with Estimation Software required
