Job summary

Metric Geo, in partnership with a market leading general contractor, seeks an experienced Estimator for heavy civil projects including bridges, highways, tunnels, and transit systems. This senior role reports to the Vice President of Estimating and focuses on accurate cost proposals.

You will develop unit price estimates, read drawings, perform quantity take-offs, and drive cost data in HCSS and Excel, collaborating with owners, suppliers, and subcontractors to win bids.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• 10+ years of estimating and project management experience.
• 5+ years estimating for heavy civil projects.
• Experience on projects over $100M in value.
• Strong communication with project owners, suppliers and subs.
• Familiarity with Design-Build or CMAR delivery methods.

• Develop estimates for bridge, highway, railway, airport, dam, tunnel, and transit projects.
• Read, analyze, interpret, and obtain understanding of proposals, drawings, and specs.
• Perform quantity take-offs for unit price and lump-sum bids and summarize in Excel.

Job Description

As an Estimator, reporting to the Vice President of Estimating, you will have the opportunity to:

• Develop estimates for bridge, highway, railway, airport, dam, tunnel, and/or transit projects.
• Read, analyze, interpret, and obtain a thorough understanding of contract proposals, drawings, and specifications.
• Self-perform and/or direct others in quantity take-off for both unit price and lump sum project bidding schedules, summarizing in Excel spreadsheet format.
• Analyze various scopes of work and produce comprehensive unit price estimates by creating production crews and including specific equipment and materials in a project cost software program, such as HCSS.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field from an accredited institution, and 10+ years of relevant estimating and project management experience.
• 5+ years of experience estimating for heavy civil projects.
• Previous estimating experience on projects over $100M in value.
• Good communication skills to effectively solicit and work with individual project owners' representatives, material suppliers, and subcontractors in pre-bid estimate preparation and post-bid negotiations.
• Capable of working effectively within a cohesive heavy civil estimating team to facilitate comprehensive cost proposals, and to conclude efforts during joint venture team reviews on major projects when applicable.
• Previous experience with alternative delivery methods such as Design-Build and CMAR is preferred.
