Job summary

Hi-Tek Manufacturing Inc. in Mason, OH is seeking an Estimating Engineer to analyze engineering designs, CAD models, and prototypes to determine manufacturing methods, tooling, and costs for quotes. The role requires coordinating with engineering and production to ensure accurate, timely quotations.

You will use CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX to interpret models, create routings, and advise on materials and processes. The position offers a salary of $100k–$130k and full benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent years of experience in manufacturing estimating.
• Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
• Proficient with CAD/computer graphics, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project.

Responsibilities

• Review customer drawings, blueprints, solid models, and specifications to determine manufacturing methods, sequence of operations, and resources required for each component or assembly.
• Complete quotes on projects that may require Hi-Tek’s processing disciplines, including outside vendor processes such as shot peen, coating, and brazing.
• Complete estimates that meet or exceed cost, schedule, quality, and customer specification requirements.
• Create preliminary routings, specify required materials, and provide tooling concepts based on quoted operations.
• Assist Production Control in re-quoting legacy components to ensure profit margins are met.
• Use CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX to interpret solid models and assemblies for quotation purposes.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production Control, and outside vendors to obtain information needed for accurate, timely quotes.
• Perform all work in accordance with AS9100 quality management system requirements.
• Follow Hi-Tek policies and procedures, including PPE usage in production areas.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the Estimating Engineer analyzes engineering design documents, solid models, and/or prototypes and makes plans and decisions concerning the methods, processes, tooling, fixtures, gages, and inspection methodology required to produce a product or perform any required operation. The Estimating Engineer determines the estimated cost to produce each component or assembly and prepares quotations for current and prospective customers. The position also creates preliminary routings and specifies required materials when known. Work requires the regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment.

Essential Tasks:

• Review customer drawings, blueprints, solid models, and specifications to determine the manufacturing methods, sequence of operations, and resources required for each component or assembly.
• Complete quotes on projects that may require any or all of Hi-Tek’s processing disciplines, including outside vendor (O/V) processes such as shot peen, coating, and brazing.
• Complete estimates that consistently meet or exceed cost, schedule, quality, and customer specification requirements.
• Create preliminary routings, specify required materials, and provide tooling concepts based on the quoted operations.
• Assist Production Control in re-quoting legacy components to ensure profit margins are met, which may include identifying alternative manufacturing methods or machining resources.
• Use CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX to interpret solid models and assemblies for quotation purposes.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production Control, and outside vendors to obtain the information needed for accurate, timely quotes.
• Perform all work in accordance with AS9100 quality management system requirements.
• Follow all Hi-Tek policies and procedures, including the use of proper PPE when in production areas.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Engineering preferred, or equivalent years of experience in manufacturing estimating.
• Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry.
• Proficient with CAD/computer graphics, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project.

• Work is performed primarily in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
• Close visual acuity is required to review blueprints, drawings, solid models, and computer screens.

• Occasionally walks the production floor to review parts and processes, where moderate noise levels are present and required PPE (e.g., safety glasses) must be worn.
• Occasionally lifts and/or carries items such as files and part samples weighing up to 15 pounds.
