Job summary

GEO Academies Baton Rouge invites applications for a Child Specific Aide to assist a student with a disability within the classroom setting. The role supports instructional and self-care activities under the supervision of a certified teacher.

The successful candidate will carry out behavior support, instructional assistance, and personal care tasks while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associates degree or 2 years of college or passing ETS Parapro Exam.
• Experience in an educational setting is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with academic instruction, self-care, social skills, and behavior management.
• Assist student with physical disability including transfers to/from wheelchair.
• Assist student with feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene as needed.
• Adapt to student’s medical, physical and social needs.
• Supervise student during the school day inside and outside the classroom.
• Inform teachers of any special needs or problems.
• Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and events as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
• Support district goals and follow policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

GEO Academies Baton Rouge is seeking a Child Specific Aide to join our team.

We are seeking an experienced child specific aide to join our team. As a Child Specific Aide, you will be responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of a student with a disability in the educational setting.

Services consist of, but are not limited to, assisting with the implementation of classroom programs, including academic instruction, behavior management, and self-help. The Child Specific Aide, under general supervision of the school administration and immediate direction of the certified teacher.

Responsibilities (includes, but are not limited to):

• Assists teachers with the implementation of academic instruction, self-care, social skills instruction, and behavior management
• Assists student with a physical disability according to student needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning (if needed)
• Assists student with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene (if needed)
• Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to the student’s medical, physical, social and communicative needs
• Maintains supervision of the student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom
• Keeps teachers informed of special needs or problems of the individual student
• Participates in staff professional development training, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
• Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students
• Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned
