Job summary

University Settlement Society Of New York seeks an ESOL instructor for the Adult Literacy Program on a partial year basis at 175 Eldridge Street, NY 10002. Classes run with morning/evening/weekend shifts as listed, focusing on language and computer skills with a technology-integrated approach.

Responsibilities include teaching in-person ESOL, assigning homework and tests, maintaining records, and participating in professional development and staff meetings.

Qualifications

• Must have a B.A. in TESOL/English or related field or a TESOL certificate.
• Two years of ESOL teaching experience.
• Experience delivering technology-integrated lessons and using Microsoft 365 apps.

• Teach and monitor in-person ESOL classes
• Assign daily homework and give tests and writing assignments as required by the program
• Teach basic computer skills and regularly use technology in the classroom
• Regularly use class texts and supplemental materials
• Maintain attendance and performance records
• Follow and enforce program policies and rules
• Attend a minimum of 14 hours of RAEN-approved professional development as required by the NYSED and program
• Attend staff meetings
• Read and respond to emails from director, assistant director, and head teacher using University Settlement email account
• Complete bi-weekly online time sheet

The Adult Literacy Program provides ESOL classes to immigrant adults in New York City. University Settlement provides a comprehensive network of services to over 10,000 people of all ages lining in the Lower East Side. Its broad network of activities includes adult literacy classes, mental health counseling and intensive case management; group and family day care; support services to the formerly homeless; after-school and summer camp for children and teens; a senior center and a credit union.

Schedule

• Day - Monday - Thursday, 9:00am - 1:00pm
• Evening - Tuesday - Thursday, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
• Weekend - Saturday & Sunday, 9:30am - 12:30pm
